What's an autoharp? The autoharp is basically a zither that has a chord bar attached above the strings. When the autoharpist presses one of the chord bars and strums the strings, the felts on the chord bar mute some strins and allow others to ring. Those ringing strings form a chord. This makes the autoharp, in my opinion, the easiest instrument to sit down and start playing with no experience necessary. Learn to pick strings and different strumming patterns and you will also find a whole new realm of possibilities. The chord bar was originally patented by K.A. Gütter of Markneukirchen, Germany in the 1880s, and it's design and beauty has only grown more splendid with time.More: True History of the Autoharp Who is Marc Gunn, Bard?I am an autoharpist and bard in a Celtic Renaissance duo based out of Austin, Texas called the Brobdingnagian Bards. My partner plays the recorder and mandolin and I play the Autoharp, of course. I've been at it since 1997 and play professionally throughout the United States. I love it because I feel the autoharp is atuned to my soul.More: Marc Gunn, Autoharper | Marc Gunn's Autoharp Music webpage | Brobdingnagian Bards |
