Show #68 -

The instrumental "Gravel Walk/Elzic's Farewell" by The AM String Band was a lively as heck way to open the show. Really liked it.

"Dance In The Meadow/Song Of This World" from Thetiler was pretty good...it struck as a song that could serve as an opening track to a movie or perhaps in a retrospective flashback sequence of a TV series.

The Blarney Rebel Band's "Stand With Me Boys" was a nice little jaunty tune...the vocal phrasing of the chorus was particularly interesting.

"The Butterfly, Miss McLeod's, Pigeon on the Gate" from Sweetfire...decent instrumental...okay but didn't really strike my fancy beyond that.

"Will Ye Go To Flanders" from Slan - Nice slower paced tune...the vocals are a bit too high pitched for me to really fall in love with them but overall they are well done.

The Kiss The Mistress track "Rocks of Rodel" - Ehhhh... I didn't end up liking this one much at all.

Madd Paddy's "The Roving Journeyman" was a nice semi-epic sounding track...dug it a lot! I like the story telling aspect of the track.

"The Kesh Jig" from Finn's Fury was a nice dare I say hard rocking trip, a garden of delights for this listener's ear.

"Leis a Lurrighan" by Ceili Moss was a nice little fast paced number...nice pace and a nice harmonic convergence of voices.

The Tossers track "Never Enough" sounds like a really pissed off drunken guy in a bar spouting off about everything set to music. And yet while that description might suggest I didn't like the song, I actually thought it was quite a cool song.

"Inside Of Me" from Brother kind of set my teeth on edge...the song struck me as totally out of place for the podcast despite the flourishes that make it "eligible" for inclusion.

The Fiddler's Green track "Folks Not Dead" was a cool rocker.

I'm casting my vote for The Blarney Rebel Band's "Stand With Me Boys" for the Celtic Top 5!

Show #12:

Mrs. Ferris's Pighouse Collection - "Wedding Reel / Maid Behind The Bar / Gravel Walk" - Nice little instrumental. While the tone is upbeat and lively, this one didn't really capture my fancy as other similar tracks have done in other shows.

The Barleyjuice song "All For Me Grog" was a nice little song. Whether intentional or not, I found it freaking hilarious lyrically.

The Killdares song "September" was a really kickass rocking track. I REALLY DUG THIS ONE!!

The Pipers Creek track(s) "Cliffs of Moher / Brest St. Marc / Donald Michael Coleman's / Father's Fancy" was okay but again, the instrumental didn't do much for me.

The "Botany Bay" track from the Trinity River Whalers was particularly wordy but the delivery of the lyrics was really good. I liked the vocal performance a lot, just a nice job throughout.

Poor Man's Fortune's "The Flight Attendant / Tom Billy's / Tommy Peoples" was another instrumental track but in this case I really enjoyed it. Nice uptempo rhythm that you could really bop your head along to.

The Makem and Spain Brothers number "Donegal" from their live album is bit of a slowdown track, but wow it really is kind of a hypnotic song. I like the vocal harmonies when all the voices are raised as one. I don't know why but I've always loved the term Donegal since seeing that old "Fighting Prince of Donegal". It is strange the connections you make, no?

Sarah Dinan's "Newry Highwayman" was nice. I like her vocals though she does get a bit too high in the register for my ears at times.

Ed Miller's "Gie The Fiddler A Dram" was another kick butt track. I can't recall the other songs I've heard on the show from him at the moment but the guy can sing his head off and he seems just to turn in great songs each time he gets a spot in the podcast.

The Brobdingnagian Bards - "Lily The Pink" - Not too kiss up to the showrunner, but I simply love this song and pretty much all the other songs I've heard from you guys.

The "Maiden's Revenge" from The Muses was a nice little ditty even with the rather high pitched female vocals.

Technically, The Bedlam Bards "Ballad of Joss" would be my favorite song on the 'cast but since I came to the song before discovering the podcast I'm sticking with The Killdares "September" track as my Show #12 fave. That being said...DAMN I LOVE "The Ballad of Joss."

The live version of "Irish Rover" from Michael Murphy and the River Shannon Band was decent.
