What
is the SXSW Music Conference?
The SXSW
Music Conference is a multimedia conference founded in the late 80's
originally to promote Austin musicians to the world. Now it includes film
and web stuff as well. But the SXSW music conference is what has impressed
me the most.
Over 1000
bands of every musical style gather every year to perform for this conference.
The SXSW music conference attracts a huge number of music business professionals
from Record Executives and and A&R to radio, television and film folks.
For many
bands, the SXSW music conference is their chance to be signed by a major
label. We see SXSW as an opportunity to gain recognition of our musical
abilities.
SXSW
Music with the Brobdingnagian Bards
The Brobdingnagian
Bards performed at the 2002 SXSW Music Conference due in to the fact that
they were one of the Top 10 music groups on MP3.com, when it was the leader
of free MP3 downloads. They had over 3,000,000 MP3s download at that time.
Since then
the Brobdingnagian Bards were voted the #2 Folk Band in the 2003 Austin
Music Awards. They've performed coast-to-coast from one weekend at a Lord
of the Rings Oscar Party in Hollywood, California followed the next weekend
by a Sci Fi Conference in upstate New York.
