On Monday, Andrew and I went to a Music Industry Bootcamp on "How to Get Your Band on the Radio" put on by the Austin Music Foundation, a non-profit that's helping to educate Austin musicians. The panel was extremely well-done. South By Southwest needs to take lessons from Nikki Rowling, who has moderated all four bootcamps to date.
There were a lot of great panelists and it was a pleasure to Kevin Conner (DJ for KGSR) again. And we met local Austin pop celebrity, Ginger MacKenzie. She's had several hits around Austin on her own label. A true Indie success! Also, met one of the members of Quattropaw. They play roots rock here in Austin and I've seen their name for a decade it seems. T'was my pleasure to finally meet someone from the group.
But I was most-excited to meet Jen Proctor. Jen is the producer for Ekkletikos at 90.5 KUT radio in Austin. KUT is public broadcasting station located at UT Austin. And Ekkletikos is the premiere radio program of Austin playing eccletic music and hosted by John Aielli. John has been the DJ for this program for over twenty years, and it is literally one of the most eccletic stations in the world! I've heard him play Mozart back to back with Metallica. John Aielli knows music, and his show is a testament to that.
Any case, it's always nice to meet people you've met only through email, and Jen is one such person. A strong and talented producer who's been kind enough to add our eccletic music to their eccletic programming. If you get a chance, make sure you drop by the KUT website. KUT streams their show live over the net from 8am-1pm (Monday-Friday), so you can listen every day and enjoy some exquisite music!
