That's Just Too Funny, Dr. D

I just got word today that we got played on Dr. Demento this past weekend. The great Doctor played "Donald, Where's Your Trousers? / Drunken Sailor Medley. Head over to Dr. D's website and recommend he keep playing it, or another bard song like "Do Virgins Taste Better Medley", "A Fairy Story", or "If I Had A Million Ducats". And don't forget to listen to your local broadcast. Also, if you'd like to hear the broadcast with us, it should be posted on his site next week!

And while we're on the subject, the first Brobdingnagian Bards comic strip is here!

Memories of Middle Earth

Well, I think we have a working title for the Tolkien CD. Though this is subject to change, it is tentatively called, Memories of Middle Earth: A Tribute CD to JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. We're still mixing down our first two cuts and have a third underway. All those who are looking forward to their Limited-Edition copy of the album, should be notified soon about their free MP3s.

BTW. Read the press release about our 2,000,000 Celtic MP3s downloaded.

2,000,000 Celtic MP3s Downloaded and Counting...

The long-awaited day is here. We have at last reached Two Million Downloads of our music. This means we are now one of the top fifteen bands on mp3.com. You can see the full list through the link above. Andrew and I both wish we knew who that two millionth listener was. Ah well. I guess the next step is 3,000,000. Well at our current rate, that should only be eight months away, though I suspect it'll be a LOT sooner once our long-awaited Tolkien album is at last releasd on September 22nd.

In other news, our friend Rie Sheridan may not have had two million downloads, but her fantasy novel, "The Blood That Binds" is #16 on the Fictionwise Best Fantasy List. It even features a bard on the cover. I'm ordering my copy today. Get yours too!

Tolkien CD Makes Headway

We recorded the first two tracks for our upcoming Tolkien Tribute CD this weekend. "Weathertop" and "Mordor". They sound great so far. And I'm hoping we'll get a couple more songs this week. So stay tuned.

If you're looking for bard swag (isn't that a cool word?), I got an email from Cafepress that Bard baseball caps are now on sale. I'm not sure how much longer the price will be dropped, so get one soon.

Highlander Radio Accepts Song Requests

One of the coolest radio stations for Celtic music I've found is Highlander Radio. It's an independent online Celtic radio station that features music by all of the best Celtic musicians online. And of the things I love about it is that they accept requests. Click the link above, and you can head over to their website and request them to play our music. Then drop and listen. You won't find as diverse and as well-programmed a station as Highlander Radio, or off the net!

The Last Unicorn Rewritten for the Silver Screen

Looks like Peter S. Beagle, author of the cult classic book and movie The Last Unicorn. Our song "None But A Harper," comes from the last page of the book and is a beautiful ballad from our first CD, Marked By Great Size.

Beagle has rewritten a screenplay version of the film. This one will be in the same vien as Lord of the Rings with real actors combined with digital actors for one incredible new movie. It's due out in the Winter of 2003.

Newsletter for Tolkien Enthusiasts

I came across a cool newsletter for Tolkien fans. It's called Beyond Bree, newsletter of the Special Interest Group of American Mensa. Seems like a very intellectual magazine. I might have to order a copy.

A Break Through in New Tolkien Songs

What a weekend! I've been under the weather so I stayed home this weekend and worked on songs for our Tolkien CD due out at the end of August (we gotta get cracking!). Last night, I had a break through and came up with a great new song coming from same with a mild comparison between the rings of smoke coming from their pipes to The One Ring. It was supposed to be drinking song, but failed miserably, leaning more towards dark and romantic. But that's okay...

Because today, another song came to me. This one is a fun sing-a-long, tentatively called, "Now It's Time To Go". It's from the perspective of Bilbo as he's giving a speech at his birthday party on September 22nd. It's a happy little song, that might just make a pretty dang good closer. We won't be introducing either of these songs tomorrow night at Cafe Mundi. But you should hear at least one new song tomorrow. And we'd love the feedback. (Direct all bad comments to Andrew. hehe ;).

Oh! I also got an email from CafePress. They host some of our swag. Right now, we have a few products reading, "Size Does Matter." And the baseball caps are on sale.

If you have ideas for other swag, or you want to design something for us, drop me a line.

Dragon Press Breaks Down on New Bardic Comic Strip

If you haven't heard the news, Nikki O'Shea of Dragon Press Graphics is working on a new comic strip featuring the Brobdingnagian Bards. We're hoping on putting it out starting in September after we release the new Tolkien CD. The comic will feature medieval bards making music and entertaining the world with our unique style of music. Who knows, maybe we'll add music in the future? But stay tuned for this exciting new addition to our website!

Happy 4th of July

I hope everyone had a safe and happy fourth of July. I had a great time. Went to see Scooby Doo and was pleasantly surprised. Shaggy did a great job, and it was pleasant seeing Rowan Atkinson in the film as well. I remember seeing some hilarious stand-up comedy of his one day while hanging out at Johannes'. I was also pleased to see "Tolkien (Lord of the Rings Remix)" has jumped up to #27 on the charts, and from the look of our daily downloads, I think we will hit 2,000,000 before this month is through! But right now, we are one of the Top 20 Acts on MP3.com. If this success continues, we will enter the Top 10 before the end of the year! Keep listening...

Return of the King!

The "Tolkien (Lord of the Rings Remix)" makes its debut on the Top 40 charts at #38. This is a beautiful sign of things to come when we release our JRR Tolkien-inspired CD at the end of August.

Corpus Christi Beaches The Bards

We had a blast this weekend in Corpus Christi. We played Cassidy's Irish Pub. It's a small little pub located in downtown Corpus, just two blocks from the sea. And let me tell you, I've never been to a friendlier pub! Les and Tracy Cassidy are the owner's and from the start, were very supportive and encouraging. Add to them the pub manager and Irishman, Connor, as well as local waitress, Geneva, and they were extremely helpful and friendly, going out of their way to serve us AND their customers.

Case in point, Les Cassidy walked in around 9:30pm and immediately was chatting and shaking the hands of a dozen people at the pub. Then when the evening was over, he pulled us aside, thanked us and asked for our opinions of the pub, which I might add, was nothing but glowing respect.

Cassidy's Irish Pub has only been open since St. Patrick's Day, and it's doing marvelous business and making an impact on the local Irish community and attracting tourists to the magic and culture of Ireland. And I salute them for their efforts!!!

Pub Patron Sings Irish Republican Songs

After a late night on Friday, we slept in on Saturday. Around noon, we got up and went to see Mr. Deeds (great movie), then came back and crashed before our gig on Saturday. I was the first to wake up. So while, Andrew was still passed out, I went down to Cassidy's to look around. I chatted with Connor, the pub manager a wee bit. From our talk, I learned Connor is from Belfast, Ireland, moved here three years ago and hasn't been back since. But halfway through our discussion, up walks Donald singing On The One Road. Connor introduces me as one of the band members for the evening, so Connor busts into another Irish Republican favorite -- The Town I Loved So Well.

After that, Donald offers me a beer and we start talking about Irish music... Okay, well it started off with Donald saying, "You should play Republican songs". But then he told me his fondness for just good Irish Folk songs...then any folk songs, then country music and finally music in general. "If you're really a fan of music you should be able to hear any style of music and appreciate it." I whole-heartedly agree.

Donald then tells me he was imprisoned by Britain for 14 years for being Irish. He came to the Corpus Christi in 1984 after being freed. He too has never been back. And although, he is steadfast in his love of Irish freedom, he didn't seem very bitter. Instead, he and his wife were happy living in Corpus Christi and owning "Irish Sensations", a Irish gift shop next door, where you can now purchase several of our CDs.

That little meeting with the local personalities of Ireland in Texas really helped to make this a fun and exciting trip. And boy, I can't wait to go back!
