MOME Hits Highlander Radio, So Go Make a Request

Your efforts are doing an amazing job. All our songs rocketed up the charts today once again establishing us as an incredible force on MP3.com. So thank you. Now, head over to Highlander Radio and make a request for our music. They are now playing Memories of Middle Earth, so the more requests you make the better it'll help our charting.

For that matter if you have a favorite internet radio station, make a request for them to play MOME. If they don't have it, tell me and I'll see about getting them a promo copy of the album. Thanks!

Bad news for College Station Nagians

I just got word that Sweet Eugene's Coffee House is ending live music for good. After ten years presenting some of the best music from around the nation, Sweet Eugene's is being forced to stop all live music. Why? ASCAP.
What is ASCAP?
ASCAP is The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. It's an organization that collects royalties for performers. Every time a copyrighted song is played on the radio or live, royalties are determined to go to the artists who wrote or recorded a song.

Okay, that's the simple explanation. Actually, there's a complex formula ASCAP uses. They pay out money to artists like us. On the one hand, it can be a great form of income for artists. On the other hand, it won't affect most artists. You see, they work on some arbitrary formula, radio and venues to find out what songs are played. From these samples, they distribute income to appropriate parties. Venues, like radio, must pay money to ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC if they present live copyrighted live music.

That's where Sweet Eugene's problem arises. Seems they were not aware of how Performance Rights Organizations' (PRO) worked. Consequently, they have determined that they will cancel all future shows at their venue.

As one of our favorite venues, I'm majorly bummed by this decision. But there's not a whole lot that can be done. So I guess in the meantime, it's time to start looking for a new venue in Bryan/College Station that will consider hosting our music.

Drummer Barding

A few years back up in Missouri, we met one incredible drummer, Michelle Hedden. Not only is she a fantastic drummer, but she has a fantastic personality as well that really meshed with Andrew and me.

Another part of our Missouri adventure involved performing with percussion at faire. And I'm pleased to say that it was a huge success. We were a wee bit rusty performing as a trio, but it turned out to be a great mix that seemed to please a lot of the Nagians up there.

So does this mean she'll be a regular? No. Not at present. Unfortunately, Michelle lives up in Missouri. So right now, she was just a part-time addition. Once we have a full schedule and can turn the music into a full-time profession, we might consider adding her to the group. But for now, we were very honored to have her performing with us.

Course it wasn't the first time. You'll also hear her drumming away in "Hobbit's Dance", and we're talking about having her perform on our upcoming Scottish CD. No certainties yet, but I must admit, I really enjoyed having a wee bit o'low end in our performance. So who knows what the future has in store.

Missouri family reunion

Boy was it great getting back to Missouri this past weekend. We've made some many wonderful, close friends, it's like going to a family reunion...except I know more people at this family reunion than my own!

The Hamlet of Mid-Missouri Renaissance Festival was a blast! The weather was warm, but nicer than it was last year. The only downside was there was an air show competing with the fest on Saturday, so attendance was much less than it was in prior years. But I'm expecting some great things for next year. It looks like some important locals have taken interest in the fest and will be helping out for next year.

Meantime, we got to see all our great music friends like 3 Pints Gone, Minstrosity, Lilies of the Valley, Bruce the Bruce, Tartanic, Nancy Dailey Green, and Catriona MacHugh. Plus, I caught performances by Comedia Sans Arte, a hilarious new Ren Faire show. Look for more of this troupe in the very near future. They are fantastic.

Oh, and one can never forget the legendary C. Wayne Owens aka Seymoure. Seymoure is an incredible Ren Faire comedian, author, scriptwriter, director, actor and inspiration to anyone who sees him perform. He has the magical touch to make you laugh and think. Definitely a show that is worth catching.

Sunday evening, we had a grand ol'time at the annual Nagians dinner at La Tapatilla (or something like that). The food is incredible, and the companionship of about thirty Nagians was the best. We laughed, danced, and had a blast with lots of great friends. Our friend John Paul of AtTheFaire.com was even out there berating us and enjoying our friendship. It was great to see him again. There should also be a bunch of pictures of the event and of us at AtTheFaire.com very soon if they're not already up.

All in all, it was a blast. I hope everyone had as great a time as I did. I've really grown to love this little faire. So please make sure and tell all your friends. And we'll see ye next year!

At Your Request...

We talked with the Nagians, and a few were concerned about the yet-to-be-named cover charge for the Cactus Cafe CD Release. Well, we want an incredible turnout, therefore, we specifically requested that there be NO COVER CHARGE for this event. Took a little convincing, but it's a go!

Hopefully, this'll even encourage a few out-of-town folks to make it out since now your only expense will be a gas and time. :)

Any case, I hope you all can make it out. This is gonna be a heckuva lot of fun!
