This is what it's all about...whatever you need to do, set aside 15-minutes of your day to do it. Do you need to exercise? Surely you can set aside Just 15 minutes to do some exercise, eh? Course you can? How about read? Study? Whatever it is just set aside 15 minutes and you will benefit greatly! But wait...you say...I can set aside 15 minutes, but that's not enough time to get into shape? No it's not. But the point is not that you will only exercise for 15-minutes. The point is to get you started. Baby steps. You've all heard of it. You have to take baby steps to reach your goal. One step at a time. One foot in front of another. Just do pieces here and there and you will reach your goal. More importantly, you will be excited about reaching your goal. Take this article for instance. I am the worst when it comes to sitting down and writing. So how do I do it...? Well first, I plan to just write for 15 minutes. Brainstorming and such. See what comes out. I'm not worrying if this is gonna be perfect or not. I'm just doing it. I got started. Once I start, the sky is the limit. If at 15-minutes I decide, I need to or want to quit, great!!! I wrote for 15-minutes. If not..., Great!!! I can keep writing. I am excited about doing it. So I'll keep going another 15 minutes or until I can't or don't want to do it. And you know what, I've gained a helluva lot in doing so. I mean, really, just think about it a moment. I not only did 15 minutes, but 30 or an hour... I accomplished way more than I intended. If that isn't cause for celebration, I don't know what is. And this goes for everything. Exercise. Every morning, I get up and stretch for 15-minutes. Some mornings, it turns into 30-45 minutes. This morning just 15 minutes and I feel great for accomplishing that. Know what else I did? Well every morning, I like to journal. So after my 15-minute exercise, I sat down and wrote in my journal. More like 20- 30 minutes. Got a lot done. I feel good about it too. So what's the Bardic Lesson? Next time, you need to get something done, plan 15-minutes. See what happens. It's a great method to overcoming procrastination and getting started doing what you need to get done. FIN |
